Neso Academy OS Interview Preparation Playlist

A comprehensive Operating System course by Neso Academy, covering fundamentals, system architecture, process management, CPU scheduling, concurrent programming, deadlocks, and memory management. This playlist features in-depth theoretical explanations, system calls, multi-threading models, classical synchronization problems (like Dining Philosophers), and detailed analyses of scheduling and resource management algorithms.

What this playlist covers

Neso Academy OS Interview Preparation Playlist by Neso Academy runs to 69 videos across 5 sections: Introduction, Concepts & System Structure, Process & Thread Management, CPU Scheduling Algorithms, Process Synchronization & Deadlocks and Deadlocks, Memory & File Systems. Tick each video off as you finish it — progress is saved in this browser, and syncs across devices once you sign in. Nothing here is gated and there is no signup to start.

Outstanding on scheduling and synchronisation, and it runs out of road exactly where memory management should start.

Who it is for

Someone who wants OS taught properly rather than revised quickly — 69 videos of it. Strong for GATE and for interviews that go past definitions.

How to work through it

  1. 01Introduction, Concepts & System Structure (11).
  2. 02Process & Thread Management (19) — the single best section in the course.
  3. 03CPU Scheduling Algorithms (19). FCFS through multilevel feedback queues, worked properly.
  4. 04Process Synchronization & Deadlocks (15) — semaphores, the classic problems, Banker's algorithm.
  5. 05Deadlocks, Memory & File Systems (5). Then go elsewhere for memory management, because 5 videos does not cover it.

What it does well

  • 38 videos across process/thread management and CPU scheduling. Nothing else here treats them at that depth.
  • Synchronisation is taught with the classical problems worked out, not just named — which is the difference between recognising a semaphore and being able to write one.
  • Clear visual explanations throughout; the scheduling Gantt charts do a lot of work.

Where it falls short

  • Memory management and file systems share a 5-video section with the tail of deadlocks. Paging, segmentation, virtual memory and page replacement are interview staples and are not covered at depth here.
  • No coverage of modern OS concerns — containers, cgroups, anything post-textbook.
  • 69 videos with a hole in it. Budget for a second source rather than assuming you are done.

What to pair it with

  • Love Babbar OS — Its 6-video memory management section fills precisely the gap this course leaves.
  • Interview question banks — OS questions as asked, to find out which sections actually landed.
